Panagiotis Dilmperis Joins Mohun Bagan Super Giants After Promising ISL Stint With Punjab FC

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have appointed Greek coach Panagiotis Dilmperis as their new head coach on a one-year contract, giving him charge of a squad expected to compete on multiple fronts in the coming season.

Dilmperis, popularly known as Panos, arrives after his stint with Punjab FC, where he earned attention for building a competitive Indian Super League side with a mix of young players and overseas recruits. The 51-year-old has also worked with clubs in Greece’s top division.

Mohun Bagan’s management has placed its faith in Dilmperis for his attacking but balanced approach. His work at Punjab FC highlighted his ability to create structure, improve squad chemistry, and get strong performances from players with different levels of experience.

After signing the contract, Dilmperis said he understood the size of the club and the expectations around it. “Mohun Bagan is much more than a football club—it is an institution with a remarkable history, a winning culture and one of the most passionate fanbases in Asia,” he said.

Speaking about the squad, the Greek coach said Mohun Bagan already had “a strong and talented squad” with experience and quality. He added that success would depend on unity, discipline, commitment and making the best use of the players available.

Durand Cup Set To Be First Test

Dilmperis is expected to face an immediate high-pressure assignment, with Mohun Bagan scheduled to meet East Bengal in the Durand Cup 2026 opener. He called the Kolkata Derby one of football’s great rivalries and said preparation, discipline, and confidence would be key.

The new coach also addressed the pressure of managing a club with such a large fanbase. “Pressure is a privilege,” he said, adding that the team could not promise victories every week but would promise courage, discipline, and the desire to win.

Dilmperis made it clear that Mohun Bagan’s objective would be to compete for every trophy. His arrival now shifts focus to pre-season planning, squad balance, and how quickly he can implement his style before the competitive calendar begins.
