‘He didn’t back down’: Lee remembers young Rohit Sharma

Asked what he noticed when he first played against a young Rohit, Lee pointed to one quality in particular: aggression.

“Aggression, he didn’t back down.”

Lee’s recollection underlines a trait that has remained central to Rohit’s batting throughout his career. Even as a young international, he was willing to take on fast bowlers rather than retreat from the contest.

Rohit Sharma and Ponting have the best pull shots

Lee remains a big admirer of Rohit’s batting and singled out one shot above all others.

“Rohit Sharma is one of my favourite players to watch, especially the pull shot.”

The former Australia pacer went a step further, putting Rohit alongside Ponting when it comes to the shot.

“Ricky Ponting & Rohit Sharma have got the best pull shots in world cricket.”

The praise is particularly fitting given Rohit’s reputation for dominating short-pitched bowling, with his balance and timing allowing him to send deliveries from fast bowlers into the stands almost effortlessly.

‘I love India’: Lee on his bond with Indian cricket

Lee also spoke warmly about his relationship with India and its cricket fans.

“I love India, I am so passionate – the people make India, they always make me feel welcome, if you play cricket, they treat you like a king.”

For a former Australian fast bowler who spent years competing against India, Lee’s comments reflect the strong connection he has developed with the country and its cricket culture.
