As the film premiered on Zee5 in Marathi, we caught up with Sai Tamhankar over the phone. In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Sa reflected on what the role of Shobha taught her. She also got candid about the camaraderie she shared with the cast and crew. The Mimi star shared why rooted, culture-driven stories continue to connect with audiences.

Here are excerpts from the interview-

Q. As an actor, every role teaches you something new. What did Tumbadchi Manjula teach you about yourself or your craft?

Sai Tamhankar: This film taught me that if your product is good, it will be appreciated and loved. I also really cherished the camaraderie between all the actors and the entire team. No one had personal goals; everyone was working towards the end product. I think this attitude is what makes history.

On a personal level, playing Shobha made me realise how much I value my freedom and independence. I think these two things are blessings.

Q. You’ve portrayed many memorable characters over the years. Where does Shobha stand in your journey as an actor, and what makes her special to you?

Sai Tamhankar: After a long, long time, I got to work with my friends, and that made this experience very special. It was also an honour to share such a big responsibility because Shobha is the only character in the film who has a serious background amid all the laughter and chaos.

The fact that I could pull it off, according to the makers, is reassuring. It gives me confidence that I was able to strike the right balance with the character.

Q. Stories rooted in local culture often leave a lasting impact. What do you hope audiences discover about Tumbadchi Manjula when they watch it on Marathi Zee5?

Sai Tamhankar: I feel culture-heavy and rooted stories always resonate with our audiences. I hope they enjoy this film on their screens as much as they did in theatres. And now, they can stop, pause and rewind their favourite scenes at their convenience!

I also hope that with this film, we can bring families together. Most importantly, I hope Shobha gives hope and courage to women who are unable to voice the injustice in their lives.

Tumbadchi Manjula is available for streaming on ZEE5.
