Sarvesh Kushare Eyes Asian Games Gold In High Jump After Historic CWG 2026 Silver

There are moments in sport when an athlete doesn’t just win a medal, they announce their arrival on the biggest stage. Sarvesh Kushare created one such moment in Glasgow on Monday (July 27) in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026.

The Indian high jumper added another glorious chapter to his dream run by winning a silver medal at the CWG 2026, clearing 2.25m in a thrilling competition. For Sarvesh, this medal is not just a podium finish. It is the reward for months of resilience, belief and a never-give-up attitude.

“It was within reach. If I could have managed to clear 2.28 today, I would have won gold,” Sarvesh reflected after the competition.

Even after missing the top spot by a small margin, the 31-year-old Indian star remained positive and focused on the bigger picture. “I didn’t get gold, but I managed to secure a silver. There will be more opportunities in the future,” he said.

FROM SETBACKS TO A RECORD-BREAKING COMEBACK

The last 11 months have been nothing short of extraordinary for Sarvesh Kushare. After becoming the first Indian male high jumper to qualify for a World Championships final and also finishing 6th at the World Championships 2025, the Nashik-born athlete entered the 2026 season with huge expectations.

However, the beginning of the season was challenging. He cleared 2.16m at the Indian Open Jumps and 2.15m at the National Indoors, results that were below his own high standards.

But champions are defined by how they respond. Sarvesh kept working, kept believing and slowly found his rhythm. He cleared 2.23m at the Indian Athletics Series – 1, jumped 2.19m at the Indian Athletics Series – 4 in Ranchi, and then matched his personal best of 2.28m at the Federation Cup. Then came the historic night in Bhubaneswar.

At the Inter-State Athletics Championships, Sarvesh shattered expectations by clearing 2.31m, breaking Tejaswin Shankar’s national record of 2.29m and becoming the first Indian male high jumper to cross the 2.30m mark. A new national record.

INDIA’S HIGH JUMP HERO RISING ON THE GLOBAL STAGE

Sarvesh continued his incredible momentum at the Monaco Diamond League, where he finished third with a jump of 2.26m. With that performance, he became only the fourth Indian athlete after Vikas Gowda, Neeraj Chopra and Murali Sreeshankar to secure a top-three finish at a Diamond League event.

And now, with his Commonwealth Games silver medal, Sarvesh has established himself among the world’s elite high jumpers.

A MEDAL DEDICATED TO FAMILY AND INDIA

After his historic achievement, Sarvesh – who is a Naib Subedarin the Indian Army – dedicated his medal to those who supported him throughout his journey. “I dedicate this medal to my entire family and my country,” he said.

For Sarvesh, however, this is not the destination. It is another milestone on the road ahead. With the Asian Games 2026 now in his sights, the Indian high jumper has made his intentions clear. “Now, I will focus more on the upcoming Asian Games and prepare to win gold,” Sarvesh said.
