Sher-e-Punjab T20 League: Auction Date and Details, Big Names to Watch, Purse, Teams – All You Need To Know

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) officially launched the inaugural Sher-e-Punjab T20 League at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday, ushering in a new era for domestic cricket in the state.

The tournament will be held from August 30 to September 13 and promises to showcase Punjab’s finest cricketing talent alongside some of India’s biggest stars. India captain Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Gurnoor Brar, Prabhsimran Singh and Ramandeep Singh are among the marquee names set to feature in the competition.

The launch ceremony was attended by PCA Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, PCA President Amarjeet Singh Mehta, India captain Shubman Gill and India pacer Arshdeep Singh, with the tournament’s official logo also unveiled.

Top Players Set to Light Up the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League

The inaugural edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will feature an impressive lineup of Punjab’s biggest cricketing stars, headlined by India captain Shubman Gill. Joining him are India pacer Arshdeep Singh, explosive left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma, IPL-winning all-rounder Ramandeep Singh, hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh and left-arm seamer Gurnoor Brar.

The presence of established international cricketers alongside promising domestic talent is expected to significantly raise the standard of the competition while providing young Punjab cricketers with an invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the country’s finest players. The star-studded lineup is also set to make the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League one of India’s most exciting state-based franchise tournaments in its inaugural season.

Six Teams to Battle Across 27 Matches

The inaugural edition will feature six franchises competing in 27 matches in a round-robin format before the knockout stage.

Each franchise will include one Marquee Player, at least two Icon Players, and a blend of international stars, domestic performers and emerging Punjab cricketers. The league aims to bridge the gap between grassroots cricket and the professional game by offering young players exposure alongside established international stars.

Shubman Gill Backs New League

India captain Shubman Gill hailed the initiative, saying the competition will become an important stepping stone for Punjab’s next generation of cricketers.

League Aims to Strengthen Punjab Cricket

The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League has been launched with the objective of providing emerging cricketers from Punjab a professional platform to showcase their talent while sharing the dressing room with established international players.

Punjab has long been regarded as one of India’s strongest contributors to cricket, producing legends such as Lala Amarnath and Yuvraj Singh, along with current international stars including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur.

The league is expected to strengthen Punjab’s cricketing ecosystem by helping identify and nurture the next generation of talent capable of representing the state and the country.

Sher-e-Punjab T20 League Auction on August 9

The player auction for the inaugural Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will be held on August 9.

The six franchises representing Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Mohali will assemble their squads ahead of the inaugural season.

Salary Purse and Player Categories

Each franchise will have a total salary purse of INR 45 lakh.

Each franchise can build a maximum squad of 20 players.
