Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s folklore fantasy film The Vvaan has cleared an important pre-release step with a rare clean certification from the Central Board of Film Certification. The CBFC’s Examining Committee has passed the film without asking for any audio or visual cuts, giving it a U/A 16+ certificate.
The certification stands out because many theatrical releases, even mainstream family entertainers, are often asked to make small changes before clearance. These may include muted words, altered visuals, disclaimers, anti-smoking or anti-drug messages, or corrections in titles and credit language. In this case, no such modification was sought.
The Vvaan gets zero cuts from CBFC
According to the censor details, The Vvaan has a runtime of 136.25 minutes. The U/A 16+ rating means the film is suitable for viewers aged 16 and above, while younger audiences may watch it under parental guidance, depending on theatre and certification norms.
The film is being positioned as a large-scale fantasy rooted in Indian folklore. Its makers are blending adventure, mystery and humour with a family-friendly commercial format. The clean certification may help the film’s theatrical prospects, especially as fantasy entertainers often rely on wide audience access.
The Vvaan also marks an interesting collaboration between Balaji Motion Pictures and TVF. Arunabh Kumar has written the film, while Deepak Mishra, known for his work in long-format storytelling, directs it. Manu Anand serves as the director of photography and visual director.
A folklore universe beyond the film
The makers have already begun building the film’s world beyond cinemas through The Legend of Vvaan comic book. The move suggests that the project is being treated not just as a standalone fantasy film, but as a larger folklore-led universe.
Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Niraj Kothari. The Vvaan is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 25, 2026.
