TT Commonwealth Games 2026: Syndrela, Sutirtha, Swastika go Invincible as India thrash Canada

India’s women’s table tennis team continued its impressive run at the 2026 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships with a commanding 3-0 victory over Canada in the group stage at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi.

While the experienced Sutirtha Mukherjee and rising star Swastika Ghosh delivered clinical performances, it was Syndrela Das who once again underlined her growing importance to the Indian squad with another composed display under pressure.

Opening the tie, Sutirtha Mukherjee set the tone with a dominant performance against Olivia Huang. The experienced paddler barely gave her opponent a chance, cruising to an emphatic 11-3, 11-2, 11-4 victory to hand India the perfect start.

The spotlight then shifted to Syndrela Das, who produced another assured performance against Jiayi Fiona Nie. Displaying excellent control, sharp placement and confidence throughout the contest, Syndrela wrapped up the match 11-4, 11-7, 11-6 to double India’s advantage. The straight-games victory highlighted the youngster’s maturity and consistency as she continues to establish herself as one of India’s brightest prospects in women’s table tennis.

With India needing just one more win to complete the tie, Swastika Ghosh stepped up in style. Facing Crystal Liu, the talented youngster remained calm during two closely contested opening games before pulling away in the third to register an 11-8, 11-8, 11-5 victory and seal the clean sweep.

The emphatic result showcased India’s impressive squad depth, with all three players winning their respective matches without conceding a single game. The convincing triumph also reinforced the hosts’ credentials as one of the favourites for the women’s team title.

Having already impressed in earlier ties, India’s women have continued to build momentum with disciplined performances and contributions from every member of the squad. Syndrela Das’ composed victory, coupled with the experience of Sutirtha Mukherjee and the consistency of Swastika Ghosh, gives the Indian camp plenty of confidence as the competition heads towards the knockout stages.

With the home crowd firmly behind them at the Thyagaraj Stadium, India will now look to carry this winning rhythm forward as they continue their pursuit of Commonwealth gold.
