Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have added a major milestone during the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, as they became India’s third-highest run-scoring batting pair across all international formats.
The experienced duo went past the 8000 run mark move into third place on the elite list. Rohit and Kohli have now amassed 8,008 partnership runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is, with only two iconic Sachin Tendulkar combinations remaining ahead of them.

The record came in India’s innings after England elected to bowl first in the second ODI of the three-match series. Having already taken a 1-0 lead in Birmingham, India once again relied on the experience of Rohit and Kohli at the top of the order, and the pair reached the landmark during their stand in Cardiff.
The duo has been one of the most successful batting combinations in ODI history. Since first batting together in 2010, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have shared 5,679 runs in 103 ODI innings at an outstanding average of 58.54. Their partnership includes 20 century stands and 18 half-century partnerships, while their highest stand remains 246 runs.
Their consistency in the 50-over format has made them one of only a handful of pairs to score more than 5,000 ODI partnership runs, with several of those stands laying the foundation for memorable Indian victories over the past 16 years.
The latest milestone also leaves Rohit and Kohli within touching distance of another historic feat. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid (11,037 runs) stand between them and second place, while Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly remain India’s most prolific batting pair with 12,400 partnership runs across formats.
