Virat Kohli once again proved why he remains one of the greatest modern-day batters as he achieved two significant ODI milestones during the second match of the India-England series at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
The star Indian cricketer scored a well-crafted 65 off just 66 deliveries, helping his team fight on a challenging seamer-friendly pitch. This knock not only showcased his class but also pushed him past Rahul Dravid to become the Indian batter with the most half-centuries in SENA countries – South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia.

With this 30th ODI fifty in SENA nations, Kohli now sits atop the list ahead of Dravid’s 29, Sachin Tendulkar’s 25, MS Dhoni’s 24, and Mohammad Azharuddin’s 17. The milestone adds yet another glittering chapter to his already illustrious white-ball career. Additionally, Kohli’s effort saw him draw level with West Indies legend Viv Richards, as both now have 14 ODI scores of fifty or more against England.
Playing exclusively in the ODI format these days, Kohli walked out after early setbacks. Openers Rohit Sharma (26) and skipper Shubman Gill (31) provided decent starts but fell short of building substantial innings. Ishan Kishan, stepping in for the unwell KL Rahul, could manage only a single run. Kohli then joined forces with Shreyas Iyer, who played a composed knock of 66 off 71 balls.
The visitors were eventually bowled out for 233 in 44 overs. Jofra Archer starred with impressive figures of 3/42, while Gus Atkinson claimed three wickets and Saqib Mahmood picked up two on his return. Jasprit Bumrah remained unbeaten on 20, adding crucial late runs.
Having won the series opener convincingly by six wickets, India now trail 1-0 in the three-match rubber after this defeat. England will chase 234 to level the series.
