Manchester, August 6: Manchester Super Giants captain Jos Buttler etched his name into the record books on Wednesday, becoming the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 cricket after surpassing former West Indies star Kieron Pollard.

Buttler achieved the milestone during Manchester Super Giants’ The Hundred 2026 clash against Welsh Fire at Old Trafford. The England wicketkeeper-batter produced a blistering unbeaten 51 off just 20 balls to guide his side to a nine-wicket victory while chasing 156, with 31 balls to spare.

The explosive knock took Buttler’s career T20 tally to 14,833 runs from 491 innings, moving him 30 runs ahead of Pollard’s 14,803. Chris Gayle, another West Indies great, occupies third place on the all-time list with 14,562 runs.

The match also marked Buttler’s first outing as Manchester Super Giants captain after regular skipper Aiden Markram was ruled out of the remainder of The Hundred due to personal reasons.

Markram returned to South Africa during the tournament, having featured in five matches and scored 117 runs. He had struck a half-century in his previous appearance against MI London at The Oval.

“Manchester Super Giants can confirm that men’s captain Aiden Markram has returned to South Africa due to personal reasons,” the franchise said in a social media statement, while extending its best wishes to the South African all-rounder.

Buttler, meanwhile, has been in sensational form this season. The England star has amassed 277 runs in six matches at an outstanding average of 92.3, underlining his importance to the Super Giants’ campaign.

Following Markram’s departure, the franchise has signed New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

Buttler’s latest record adds another major achievement to his illustrious T20 career and comes as he takes on the leadership role for Manchester Super Giants in the crucial phase of The Hundred 2026.
