PBKS batter Prabhsimran Singh is hoping to finally realise his dream of representing the senior national team as he awaits a likely debut in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. The Punjab Kings opener, who has enjoyed two prolific IPL seasons and impressed in domestic cricket and India A assignments, said his biggest goal is to return home as an India-capped player.

Speaking to JioStar, Prabhsimran admitted that playing for India has always been one of his primary ambitions. “When you start playing cricket, there are two main objectives: to represent the country and to play in the IPL. I am playing in the IPL, but now I’ve gotten this opportunity to represent the country. My only wish is that I return as a capped player this time around and perform well so that I get more opportunities,” he said.

‘Watching Him Is So Much Fun…’: Prabhsimran on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

The 24-year-old also had glowing words for teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with whom he opened the innings during India A’s recent tour.
Crediting the youngster’s fearless batting, Prabhsimran said watching Sooryavanshi at the crease was a joy.

“Watching him bat is so much fun, it brings a lot of joy. Since we were opening together, we got to spend more time together and discuss various things. It was a great experience,” he said.

He also acknowledged the intense competition for opening spots in the Indian team but described it as healthy, adding that every player simply waits for an opportunity to prove themselves.

Yuvraj Singh, Ricky Ponting Behind His Transformation

Prabhsimran credited mentor Yuvraj Singh and Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting for shaping his growth over the last two years. According to him, both coaches have encouraged players to trust their natural game while emphasizing preparation and process rather than short-term results.

“They both believe in practising hard and giving your 100 per cent. Even if results don’t come immediately, your processes shouldn’t change. The freedom they give young players to express themselves has made a huge difference,” he said.

Prabhsimran Singh Focuses On Consistency

After scoring over 500 runs in consecutive IPL seasons, Prabhsimran revealed that consistency has become his biggest focus. Earlier, he was content with providing explosive starts, but conversations with Yuvraj and Ponting changed his outlook.

“I realised scoring 25 or 30 wasn’t enough. If I get a start, I now want to bat deeper and play a bigger role in helping my team win,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Prabhsimran said his ultimate objective is to become a consistent performer across all formats and levels. “If I get the opportunity to play for India, I want to perform consistently and cement my place in the team,” he added.
