Ireland edged India by one run in Belfast to seal a 2-0 T20I series whitewash. The hosts defended 154-8 and claimed a first T20I series win over India. Harry Tector starred with bat and ball on cap number 100, despite a tense final over.
The chase came down to the last six balls with India needing 20 runs. Tector began the final over with a wide, then Harshit Rana edged a boundary. Another wide followed, and after Arshdeep Singh scored a single, India required eight from two deliveries.

Tector bowled a full toss with two balls left, but Harshit mistimed a powerful slog. Tim Tector held the catch on the boundary, dismissing Harshit for 21. Prince Yadav struck a six from the final ball, yet India still finished short on 153-9.
Ireland’s innings had earlier been built around Tector’s composed 53, the top score of the match. Ben Calitz supported with 37 as the hosts reached 154-8 from 20 overs. Only Calitz passed 20 alongside Tector, with India restricting the scoring through tight middle-overs bowling.
Yadav led India’s attack with figures of 3-22, removing key middle-order batters. Debutant Jai Moondra claimed 3-32 and struck in the first over. Moondra dismissed openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for ducks, then later removed India captain Shreyas Iyer to leave the reply in trouble.
Tilak Varma steadied the chase with a fluent 55 that put India back on target. Ireland debutant Matt Hollard, who finished with 3-26, delivered the breakthrough. Hollard removed Varma at a crucial stage, forcing India’s lower order to attack against a rising asking rate.

Harshit then counter-attacked, dragging India close before the tense finale against Tector. Ireland, missing five first-choice players, relied on several squad members with limited experience. Yet the bowling unit kept composure for most of the innings, setting up the dramatic last over at Stormont.
The result ended India’s run of 16 consecutive T20I series wins and deepened Ireland’s growing confidence. Tector’s figures of 1-40 were expensive, yet the final wicket ball proved decisive. For Ireland supporters, the weekend marked another high point for the national cricket side.
“Can’t quite believe it, challenged the lads to show the world we could do it again, and we did it, said Ireland’s captain. We came out with the same intent as the previous game. We showed that cricket can be simple and you don’t need to complicate it. We have a lot of lads with very few caps but they showed great character. We are so lucky to have these games against India. It is a great time to be a professional cricket in Ireland.”
Lorcan Tucker highlighted both the series result and the value of facing India for player growth. The performances of Tector, Hollard and Moondra stood out in pressure situations. With India moving on to a T20I series against England, Ireland’s narrow win will stay significant in recent cricket history.
