India’s athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 gets underway on Monday, July 27, with national record holder Sarvesh Kushare and Commonwealth Games medallist Tejaswin Shankar set for a blockbuster men’s high jump final.
Apart from athletics, Indian athletes will also compete in weightlifting, boxing, gymnastics, swimming, para athletics, para swimming, lawn bowls and 3×3 wheelchair basketball as the medal hunt continues in Glasgow.

Here’s the full India schedule for Day 5.
Athletics takes centre stage
The biggest attraction of the day will be the men’s high jump final, where Sarvesh Kushare, Tejaswin Shankar and Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar will all compete for medals.
Kushare enters the event in excellent form after breaking Shankar’s eight-year-old national record with a 2.31m jump earlier this month in Bhubaneswar. He also claimed a podium finish at the Monaco Diamond League, making him one of India’s strongest medal hopes.
Shankar, who won bronze in Birmingham 2022, returns to defend India’s honour despite focusing primarily on the decathlon in recent years.
National 100m record holder Gurindervir Singh begins his campaign in the opening round heats, while Commonwealth Games silver medallist Murali Sreeshankar starts his long jump campaign in qualifying alongside Lokesh Sathyanathan.
National record holder Tejas Shirse will compete in the men’s 110m hurdles heats and could return later in the night if he qualifies for the final.
Weightlifters eye more medals
India’s weightlifters will look to continue their impressive run after Mirabai Chanu won gold and Rishikanta Singh and Muthupandi Raja secured silver medals on Sunday.
Three Indians will compete in medal events:
- Gyaneshwari Yadav (Women’s 53kg)
- Bindyarani Devi (Women’s 58kg)
- Valluri Ajaya Babu (Men’s 79kg)
Bindyarani enters the competition as the Birmingham 2022 silver medallist.
Boxing contingent returns
Four Indian boxers will be in action in the Round of 16:
- Sachin Siwach (Men’s 60kg)
- Ankush (Men’s 80kg)
- Sakshi Chaudhary (Women’s 51kg)
- Sumit Kundu (Men’s 70kg)
Sakshi faces Botswana’s Lethabo Modukanele, a former Commonwealth Games medallist.
Swimming and gymnastics
Olympian Sajan Prakash begins his men’s 200m butterfly campaign in the heats and could return later for the final if he qualifies.
Aryan Nehra will compete directly in the men’s 800m freestyle final.
In artistic gymnastics, Protistha Samanta contests the women’s vault final, while Olympian Pranati Nayak is listed as reserve. Swathish KP is also reserve for the men’s rings final.
Para events
India will also challenge for medals in para athletics.
Shilpa Kanchugarakoppalu Shyla and Sharmila compete in the women’s F57 shot put final, while Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Shreyansh Trivedi line up in the men’s T38 100m final.
Para swimmer Swatik Patil will race in the men’s SB9 100m breaststroke heats and could return for the final if he qualifies.
