AUS vs BAN: Mehidy Hasan Miraz was on fire for Bangladesh on Day 4 as Australia came out to bat at 161/4 from their overnight score. During the morning session of the fourth day’s play at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, Mehidy picked up three wickets to help Bangladesh reduce Australia to 243/7 in their second innings at lunch.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his match-defining spell against Australia on the fourth day of the Darwin Test, adding three more wickets to his tally after making the breakthrough against Steve Smith on Day 3.

The Bangladesh off-spinner began Sunday’s attack by accounting for Alex Carey, who edged the delivery through to wicketkeeper Litton Das. Mehidy then produced another superb delivery to beat Beau Webster’s defence and send the batter’s stumps flying.
Australia captain Pat Cummins became Mehidy’s third victim of the day. Cummins got an inside edge onto the ball, with Shadman Islam completing a straightforward catch at short leg.

The dismissal carried added significance for Mehidy as it brought up a major milestone in his Test career. Cummins’ wicket was his 100th in the World Test Championship, making Mehidy the latest Bangladesh bowler to reach the landmark.

The milestone also placed Mehidy in an exclusive all-rounders’ club. He became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to register the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in the WTC. The 28-year-old has now accumulated 1,436 runs and 100 wickets from 32 WTC matches.
Taijul remains Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the competition with 118 scalps from 28 matches. Mehidy is next on the list, followed by Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed, who have both taken 41 wickets.

Mehidy Joins Elite WTC All-Rounders’ Club

With his latest milestone, Mehidy has joined a select group of players who have scored at least 1,000 runs and taken 100 wickets in the WTC.

Before the Bangladesh all-rounder, only Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc had achieved the feat.
Jadeja leads the group with 2,610 runs and 156 wickets, while Ashwin has 1,142 runs and 195 wickets. Australia’s Cummins and Starc have also crossed the 1,000-run mark alongside 200-plus wickets, while England’s Stokes has 3,857 runs and 119 wickets.

Mehidy’s All-Round Impact in Darwin

Mehidy’s milestone came during an outstanding individual performance in Darwin. After contributing just four overs during Australia’s first innings, he played a crucial role with the bat, scoring 65 off 154 deliveries at No. 7.

His patient knock helped Bangladesh post a formidable 426 in their first innings and secure a substantial 228-run lead over Australia.

Mehidy then made an even bigger impact with the ball in Australia’s second innings. After dismissing Steve Smith on Day 3, he returned on Sunday to remove Alex Carey, Beau Webster and Pat Cummins, taking his wicket tally to 100 in the WTC.

The off-spinner’s contribution has put Bangladesh in a strong position as they chase a potentially historic Test victory on Australian soil.
