BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirms Strict Review of India’s Performance after ODI Series, gives Gambhir Update

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have an extensive review of the ongoing debacle of the Indian team in the England series, as it was said by secretary Devajit Saikia.

India have been enduring a dismal period in their ongoing Europe tour, as they have lost consecutive T20I series. After losing to Ireland, the Indian team has also lost the T20I series against England. Shreyas Iyer has so far failed to win a match as India captain, as the Indian team lost consecutive T20I series for the first time in seven years.

Amid this, the BCCI has confirmed that a strict retrospection will take place after the ODI series concludes. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia spoke to the media on Friday (July 10), confirming the meeting.

“The BCCI is currently observing the performance of the Indian T20 team, which has not been up to the mark in the ongoing series against England. However, this is not something abnormal and can happen in international cricket. We consider it as a purely bad phase,” Saikia said to IANS.

“Once the ODI series gets over on July 19 and the team comes back, we will have a review meeting with core members of the team to discuss what went wrong in England. Since there is an ODI series, we are hoping that the team will be back in good form. The review meeting will be strictly about the performance of the team and how course correction can be done with regards to shortfalls. Nothing else will be discussed,” he added.

The review meeting will take place along with Iyer and Gambhir, but the India head coach is set to continue even after the recent debacle.

There have been many questions regarding Team India’s approach to this series. Former players have questioned Harshit Rana’s straight inclusion after a long injury lay off, while the biggest question has been regarding Sanju Samson’s omission from the team and the subsequent Zimbabwe series.
