‘Hanuman Ansh’ Sets Box Office Ringing With Takings Of Rs 200 Cr
“Hanuman Ansh”, which slipped quietly into theatres last month with takings of Rs 1.08 crore in a near-invisible opening week, is now the year’s most unlikely box office hit, the success of the small budget biopic on the late Baba Neem Karoli recalling the phenomenon that was “Jai Santoshi Ma” 51 years ago. Directed by doctor-filmmaker Vishal Chaturvedi, the film features the relatively unknown Shobhinaw Satyaa in the lead. Released on August 7, it has gone from 250 screens to 2,000 this week and its earnings from a day one opening of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 200 crore (gross) in India.

Haiwaan has a promising thriller setup and two capable actors at its centre. The combination of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan is definitely one of the film’s biggest attractions, while Priyadarshan brings his experience to the story. However, the film takes too long to get going. The first half is dull and fails to create the required suspense. The second half is comparatively better, with the final 30-40 minutes offering some genuinely intriguing moments. If you are a fan of Akshay, Saif or Priyadarshan, Haiwaan can be given a shot. But as a thriller, it does not fully live up to its potential. Overall, Haiwaan is a strictly one-time watch.

Mirzapur The Movie Crosses Rs 200 Crore Worldwide
Mirzapur: The Movie has crossed the ₹200 crore mark worldwide within just seven days of its theatrical release. The film got off to a strong start, earning more than Rs 100 crore globally by the end of its opening weekend itself. A major reason behind its strong run has been the film’s steady performance during the weekdays. Instead of seeing a sharp drop after the weekend, Mirzapur: The Movie managed to hold its ground on Monday and continued to record healthy collections through the week. The film has received an especially strong response in the mass centres of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It opened with ₹25 crore on day one and continued to maintain its pace even after the initial weekend rush. By Thursday, its seventh day, the film was still managing to collect more than ₹10 crore net in India. After seven days, Mirzapur: The Movie has earned around ₹148 crore net domestically, while its India gross collection stands at approximately ₹177 crore. With the worldwide total now crossing ₹200 crore, the film is continuing its strong run at the box office.
