ETPL 2026 Set for August 26 Launch as Waugh, Dravid, Hayden Welcome New Era of European Cricket

ETPL 2026: The European T20 Premier League (ETPL) will make its debut on August 26, with Rotterdam Dockers facing Amsterdam Flames in the tournament opener. Featuring six franchises, the competition will span 26 days and be staged across two venues, Voorburg Cricket Club in the Netherlands and Malahide in Ireland.

A total of 30 league-stage matches will be played in a double round-robin format, ensuring each team faces every other side twice. The team finishing at the top of the standings will secure an automatic berth in the final, while the second and third-placed teams will battle it out in a Qualifier to determine the other finalist.

The opening half of the league phase, consisting of 15 matches, will take place in Voorburg before the tournament shifts to Malahide for the remaining fixtures, including the Qualifier and the championship match. The transition between venues is scheduled for September 7 and 8. Fans can also look forward to multiple double-header matchdays, with games beginning at 11:30 am and 3:15 pm local time.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural match, former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes, co-founder of the Rotterdam Dockers, said, “It is a privilege to open the inaugural ETPL season. The inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) has attracted significant attention even before the first ball is bowled, with legendary cricketers backing franchises as co-owners and several international stars set to feature in the competition. The six-team tournament is expected to provide a major boost to cricket across Europe while creating a new platform for emerging talent.

Amsterdam Flames co-owner Steve Waugh believes the tournament opener will be an ideal opportunity to introduce the franchise to fans. “The opening match is a fantastic opportunity to introduce Amsterdam Flames and the brand of cricket we want to play. We’re proud to be part of this exciting new chapter for European cricket and look forward to getting underway,” Waugh said.

The league boasts an impressive player roster, featuring Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Heinrich Klaasen, Mitchell Marsh, Lungi Ngidi, and Trent Boult, among others, ensuring a high standard of competition throughout the tournament.

Dublin Guardians co-owner Rahul Dravid said the franchise is excited to represent the Irish capital in Europe’s newest T20 competition. “We look forward to an exciting inaugural season and to building something the city and its fans can be proud of,” Dravid remarked.
Meanwhile, Glasgow Cosmic co-owner Matthew Hayden described the ETPL as a defining moment for Scottish cricket. “The ETPL marks a landmark moment for Scottish cricket, and Glasgow Cosmic is proud to be part of this journey. We look forward to making our mark from the very first ball,” Hayden said.
