Ravi Bishnoi Registers Unwanted Record After Expensive Spell in England T20I

India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi endured one of the toughest outings of his international career during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, conceding 60 runs and bowling one of the most expensive overs by an Indian in T20I history.

England chased down India’s target by four wickets, with Jacob Bethell’s unbeaten 76 turning the match in the hosts’ favour after a costly 17th over from Bishnoi.

Ravi Bishnoi’s 29-run over enters unwanted record books

With England needing 49 runs from the final four overs, captain Shreyas Iyer turned to Bishnoi in the 17th over.

The leg-spinner struggled for control, bowling two back-foot no-balls that handed Bethell free hits. The England batter capitalised, launching both deliveries for six as 29 runs came from the over.

The momentum shift proved decisive, with England completing the chase comfortably.

Jacob Bethell changes the game

Bethell was relatively subdued before targeting Bishnoi in the 17th over.

The left-hander eventually finished unbeaten on 76 off 46 balls, scoring 34 runs from his final 10 deliveries as England sealed a four-wicket victory to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Shreyas Iyer refuses to blame Bishnoi

Despite Bishnoi’s difficult outing, India captain Shreyas Iyer resisted singling out the leg-spinner after the match.

“I think we all know where it went away, but I don’t want to pinpoint any particular player. The way we were cruising until the 15th over, I think we were doing exceptionally well. And then suddenly the momentum shifted towards them, and from there on, I felt it was a cakewalk for them.”

When asked specifically about Bishnoi, Iyer admitted the costly over proved decisive but backed the spinner to recover.

“I was like, okay, he’s going to come back strong after that. But again, in the 17th over, back-to-back, I think it haunted us a bit. But yeah, definitely he’s got to learn from that.”

While Bishnoi’s spell entered the record books for the wrong reasons, India will hope the 25-year-old can bounce back quickly as they head to Trent Bridge for the third T20I, looking to level the series.
