Shubman Gill gives Strong Statement on NEET Paper Leak Protest in Delhi, Other Stalwarts Yet to Comment

India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill has led from the front, this time off the field, as he became the latest cricketer/sportsperson to speak about the NEET Paper Leak protest, fueled by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in New Delhi.

Gill took to his social media platform and gave his opinion on the ongoing protest, which has rocked the entire nation and its conscience.

The NEET examination saw its paper getting leaked, which led to the suicide of 21 bright students. Amid this, the youth of the country has launched a huge protest, which has been brewing at the Jantar Mantar area in New Delhi. Activist Sonam Wangchuk sat for Hunger Strike for days until he was taken away to hospital by Delhi Police, while millions of students and people have demanded the resignation of current education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Gill is among a few sportspersons who have commented on the matter. The India captain asked for compassion and mutual respect and admitted his respect for the youth of the nation.

“As a young Indian, I believe our generation deserves every opportunity to learn, dream and shape the future we all aspire to. I have immense respect for every young person who believes in making their voice heard peacefully. Education has the power to shape our nation’s future. I hope we move forward with compassion, mutual respect and keeping the best interests of every student at heart,” Gill said on his Instagram story.

Gill’s statement comes after his mentor, Yuvraj Singh penned earlier for the protestors and asked for ‘amicable solution’ for the betterment.

“To every child, student, woman and man: you deserve the opportunity to learn in peace, grow with safety and chase your dreams. Your well-being is the foundation of a brighter India. Let’s come together to build communities of care, opportunity, and hope. Through dialogue, we can find an amicable solution for the sake of India’s future,” the former India player said.

Shikhar Dhawan, Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammed Kaif have been few other ex-India players who have voiced their opinion. There have been support or statements from figures like Abhinav Bindra and Sania Mirza, while Paris Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker also showcased her support to the youth.

The two India stalwarts of the current generation are still silent on the matter. Virat and Rohit, who are regarded as the modern-day greats of Indian cricket, have not yet spoken. As the days continue to pass, it is to be seen if they remain tight-lipped or choose otherwise.

MyKhel also spoke to ex-India women’s captain Anjum Chopra, who declined to comment on the matter, citing that she was yet to fully know the matter due to her recent travels outside India. She acknowledged the current issues, and it was centered around India.

“I know that something is happening at the moment. I know it is regarding our country only, and everybody is jumping on the bandwagon, but I do not know everything about it. But at the end of the day, it is about education,” she said.
