India vs England: Axar Patel Becomes 4th Indian Cricketer To Take 100 Wickets In T20Is

New Delhi: India all-rounder Axar Patel etched his name into the record books during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, by becoming just the fourth Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. The landmark came in the fifth over of England’s innings when the left-arm spinner dismissed captain Harry Brook, reaching the coveted three-figure mark in style.

The achievement places Axar alongside an elite group comprising Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah as the only Indian bowlers to reach 100 T20I wickets. More significantly, the 32-year-old became the first Indian spinner to achieve the milestone, underlining his consistency and value in the shortest format. While Arshdeep leads India’s all-time T20I wicket charts with 131 scalps, followed by Hardik (114) and Bumrah (101), Axar has now joined the prestigious club, with Yuzvendra Chahal (96 wickets) next in line to reach the landmark.

Axar Patel Dismisses Harry Brooks To Claim 100th Wicket

England’s skipper, Harry Brooks, was looking in sublime touch after racing to 39 off just 15 deliveries and threatening to take the game away from India. Axar Patel, however, produced the breakthrough at a crucial moment. Bowling a delivery drifting down the leg side, Axar tempted Brook into attempting a sweep shot.

The England captain could only manage a faint glove, and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan reacted quickly to complete a safe catch behind the stumps. The dismissal ended Brook’s explosive knock and provided India with a much-needed wicket, while also helping Axar reach the landmark of 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.

Axar Patel Becomes Fourth Indian To Claim 100 Wickets

Axar also entered an elite list by becoming only the fourth Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. Arshdeep Singh currently tops India’s all-time T20I wicket charts with 134 wickets, followed by Hardik Pandya (114) and Jasprit Bumrah (101).

With the milestone, Axar also established himself as India’s most successful men’s spinner in the format, moving ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal, who has taken 96 wickets in 80 T20I appearances.
